When I first came up with the concept to write a three - chord rock and roll song that sounded progressively more contemporary with each verse, I expected it to be fairly challenging to fit modern metal riffs into the old A - D - E pattern. It wasn't. As it turns out, three - chord rock and roll is timeless. In the words of Chuck Berry, "Hail, hail, rock and roll"! Some of the retro stylings in the song are fairly generic representations of rock music from a particular era, while others are more intentionally reminiscent of specific bands with whom I most strongly associate a time period.
